Material innovation backed by science.

Arda Biomaterials transforms waste feedstocks into smarter, circular biomaterials for fashion, home goods, automotive, and more.

Introducing our first material: transforming beer into leather.

Okay, it’s actually from the spent grain from the brewing process.

Don’t worry, your beer is safe - cheers!

Arda skips the cow...

That’s right. New Grain™ contains no cows. Just plants.

We go straight from grain to New Grain™, avoiding destructive factory farms, slaughterhouses, and chemically intensive tanneries – producing materials at a fraction of the land use, water use, and CO2 emissions.

We accomplish this all with chemistry and materials science.

…and skips the plastic.

Other alternative leathers are plastic-powered. New Grain™ is plant-powered.

Arda believes in developing materials that are good for the planet throughout the product life cycle. This includes what happens at the end of the material’s life. New Grain™ is 100% plastic-free so it can decompose without contributing to microplastic pollution.

Arda is returning to The Leather Market with a planet-friendly alternative.

Arda Biomaterials began just south of London Bridge in Bermondsey – the present-day craft brewing hub of London and historic leather tanning district of the city.

Along the ‘Bermondsey Beer Mile’, there is a building aptly named ‘The Leather Market’ where Arda has set up their laboratory and calls home.

The rich, artisanal history of Bermondsey’s leather industry, combined with the local brewing culture supplying abundant feedstock, mixed with a little bit of science, all collide to form New Grain™, the first of Arda’s materials...
